She works as a journalist at the Banner, but she is indifferent to the job. Her demeanor is often described as “cold” in the novel, and Roark seems to immediately see through this to her integrity-she admires talent, hard work, and honesty, though she is too afraid of the world’s pettiness to pursue any of these things herself.
